Context
Discounts train shoppers to wait, and they bleed margin. The goal was a promotion with genuine emotional stakes, urgency people actually feel, built around something customers already care about, without marking the product down.
My Role
I directed the game concept, the spin-to-win mechanic, the visual design, and the way the conditional-rebate logic maps to a real, public sports trigger. The PlayAbly platform handled integration and fulfillment.
The Mechanic
- Pick a real trigger. Tie the payout to a public, unambiguous moment. If the big game goes to overtime, the order is refunded in full.
- Play at checkout. A spin-to-win moment turns the purchase into a game, and gives a reason to buy now rather than later.
- Buy now, win later. Customers pay full price today. They win a full refund only if the trigger actually hits.
- Protect the margin. It is a conditional rebate, not a discount. Most orders never pay out, and the lift in conversion and order value funds the ones that do.
Why It Works
- Real stakes beat manufactured urgency. A shared cultural moment gives people a reason to act now.
- Full price protects brand value. The rebate reads as upside, never a markdown.
- Order value climbs as customers buy more to maximize a potential full refund.
